Rockin the Gear!

I can’t count how many times I’ve fallen in the past and thought, “Damn, I should have been wearing that.” When I first started stunt riding, I learned pretty quick to wear my gear.

I don’t care how hot it gets, but here in Jacksonville, Florida, you’ll never find me riding around in a tank top. I won’t ride without having protection. I have enough scars! No matter what, I’m decked out in jacket, gloves, helmet, knee and chin protectors and Kevlar-enforced pants thanks to Speed & Strength’s “Little Miss Dangerous” www.ssgear.com and SARTSO Jeans. After my most recent spill at XDL Nashville Tennessee, I’m so glad I wore all my gear. I flipped a high chair stoppie and I could have been much worse off than what I walked away with if it hadn’t been for my gear.

I recently met up with photographer, Christine Paterson from C&S Photography, to get some shots for the 2011 “Rock the Gear” campaign.  Brittany Morrow, who is the founder and creator of “Rock the Gear,” brought me up to speed with her campaign.

Inspiration for Rock the Gear came from the similar visions and joint efforts of Brittany and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. The MSF has been a long standing pillar in the industry and is synonymous with the brands we ride and wear. Brittany’s vision began quite some time later after an unfortunate and extreme accident in 2005. Rock the Gear is a true collaboration between the “Gurus of Safety” and the “Queen of Road Rash.”

On September 25, 2005, Brittany was involved in a life changing sport bike accident as a passenger on a GSXR 750. She spent two months in the hospital and received skin grafts on over 50 percent of her body. Since the accident, pictures of her injuries and articles about her experience have been posted on over 200 motorcycle forums in the United States alone.

Due to the overwhelming response to her story, Brittany has dedicated her life to the promotion of motorcycle safety apparel and the education of riders regarding this important aspect of the sport. Her most recent partnership is with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, to create a web based campaign urging all riders to “Rock the Gear.”

The “Rock the Gear” campaign launch in 2008 was funded by the MSF through the National Agenda for Motorcycle Safety grant program. The campaign is created, designed, and managed by Brittany and a small dedicated team of professionals and motivated riders. The mission is simple: Produce a community where information is available, influence is abundant and the choice to ROCK THE GEAR is supported and rewarded.

Thanks to C&S Photography and Brittany Morrow, be sure to check it out www.rockthegear.org!

As for me, where will I end up next??…..who knows and neither do I!! But you can most certainly catch me in Orlando, Florida for Stunt Wars and Indianapolis Indiana this August for XDL’s Finals!
